The Delfshaven cronicles

Delfshaven is a municipality with a remarkable history. The settlement started around the year 1400 as a colony of the city of Delft with te purpose of a forwarded sea harbor. In 1826 it became a self governed city. This state of independance lasted only until 1886 when the city was incorporated by Rotterdam.

I'm sorry to have to disappoint you: my website is not translated yet.

However, until I find the time and, above all, the spirit to take on this huge task, you can use AltaVista's Babelfish service to get a general impression of my report on Delfshaven's history.

The Babelfish online translations are far from perfect and sometimes Piet Heyn, de Delfshavense zeeheld van de Rotterdammersoutright ludicrous.
For instance:
Zeemagazijn der VOC kamer Delft (marine warehouse of the VOC chamber
of Delft) will be translated as
Sea being possible vinegar of the VOC digs chamber

Weird, isn't it! But well.. for the time being it's either that or learning Dutch.
But keep in mind that (the city) "Delft" will be translated as (the verb) "digs".

Click http://babelfish.av.com and choose your preferred language,
or click here to open the Babelfish' English translation right away.

Anyway, enjoy the pics!
